titanium and titanium based titanium alloys have been used in aerospace industry and navigation industry because of their low density, high strength, good corrosion resistance, high heat resistance and good low-temperature performance. It is mainly used to make compressor components of aircraft engines, followed by structural components of rockets, missiles and high-speed aircraft. In addition, it is also used to produce hydrogen storage materials and shape memory alloys.
Titanium is a silver white metal with many excellent properties. The density of titanium is 4.51g/cm3, 43% lighter than steel, and slightly heavier than the famous light metal magnesium. The mechanical strength is similar to that of steel, which is twice larger than aluminum and five times larger than magnesium. Titanium is resistant to high temperature. Its melting point is 1942K, nearly 1000K higher than gold, and nearly 500K higher than steel.
